Moringa Project in Ghana 05? Project Aims and Objectives II

Subsistence farmers made up of 4 farming groups from 4 clans were selected to the start the project. These farmers were responsible for the clearing of the bush, land preparation and planting of the moringa seedlings. Few moringa seeds were provided by EHCO, a U.S based non-profit organization and the rest were purchased from a local NGO promoting moringa in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana to start the project. In March 2008, the  2.5 acres demonstrative farm was fully established at Santrokofi-Furme. Volunteers from Ghana Moringa Association and Agric Extension officers provided the technical assistants necessary for the nursing of the seeds and the transplanting of the seedlings.

Since the establishment of the farm, the farmers have been taken through practical field demonstrations on cultivation of moringa and processing. Workshop/Seminars have been organized for the farmers and community members to educate them on the nutritional benefits, consumption and other uses of the moringa plant. The Shape Lives Foundation is working to ensure that the inhabitants of Santrokofi Communities have in-depth knowledge about moringa and its health benefit and adapted it as a healthly food plant that  must be cultivated by every house hold on their farms and gardens.
