Cuba has long been a country reliant on medicinal plants and natural remedies. Hernandez, herself, recalls childhood illness’s cured though a series of herbal drinks.

Moringa has found a strong following in Cuba. Hernandez notes, “The MoringaOlifera, one of the most widespread plan species in Cuba, now has everybody going crazy. According to the articles published on the internet, a Moringa leaf is more than 25 percent proteins, which is as much as in eggs and twice the amount of milk.” Cuban chefs and household cooks have been incorporating this “miraculous tree” in all their dishes including, “Moringa tea, Moringa corn stew, Yellow Rice with Moringa, Sauteed Onion, Pepper, and Buttered Moringa, and Moringa Salad.

If this trend continues, we may soon see Moringan Cigars lit up on the streets of Havana.
